Sony Smart Tennis Sensor: Elevate Your Game with Real-Time Metrics
Sony has unveiled the Smart Tennis Sensor (SSE-TN1W), a tool designed for tennis players at all skill levels to refine their performance and share results. This advanced sensor enhances game analysis by providing real-time shot visualizations on smartphones or tablets, allowing players to view both recorded video and shot metrics simultaneously. It is compatible with select rackets from top manufacturers, including Wilson, Prince, and Yonex.

Equipped with cutting-edge sensing technology and new vibration analysis mechanics, the Smart Tennis Sensor captures player metrics such as shot count, impact location, swing speed, ball speed, and spin. By detecting waves and motions, it identifies various swing types, including topspin and slice forehands, volleys, backhands, smashes, and serve types. Sony developed these advanced components using its expertise in audio and sound analysis.

The Smart Tennis Sensor connects wirelessly to smartphones and tablets via Bluetooth, with performance data instantly visualized on a dedicated app for iOS and Android. This app displays swing heatmaps and stats in real-time and records rallies with detailed shot metrics. Social sharing capabilities enable players to instantly share their sessions online.

With a weight of around 8 grams and a 31.3mm diameter, the sensor attaches discreetly to the bottom of the racket, minimizing any interference with play. The Memory Mode feature allows it to store up to 12,000 shots, making it easy to transfer data to a smartphone or tablet later. Players can also move the sensor between compatible rackets as needed.

Rated IP65 for waterproof and dustproof durability, and approved by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) for competition, the Smart Tennis Sensor is built for all levels of play. For details on compatible rackets and further information, visit Sony’s website. Note that usage during competition is allowed when coaching is permitted, while Memory Mode enables data capture even without live connection, subject to competition rules.
