In a significant move towards promoting inclusivity in local sports, the City of Casey has partnered with Get Skilled Access to introduce an Inclusion Coach. This initiative is part of the broader Sport4All Program, which aims to make sports clubs more accessible and welcoming to individuals with disabilities. Sport4All is a nationwide campaign dedicated to enhancing the inclusivity of community sports for people living with disabilities.
Leading the charge, Hampton Park Tennis Club has become the first local sports club to successfully complete the Sport4All program, resulting in the development of their own Inclusion Action Plan. “This achievement marks a significant milestone for Hampton Park Tennis Club as they embrace an inclusive approach, coinciding with the upcoming pavilion redevelopment set to begin later this year,” commented Cr Koomen.
In their efforts to accommodate all members, the club has requested specific modifications, such as wider door frames for the accessible toilet, to better suit sports chairs, which are typically broader than standard wheelchairs. “The Sport4All program provides clubs with the essential tools to foster inclusivity, and Hampton Park Tennis Club has taken the initiative to lead by example,” Cr Koomen further noted.
Ongoing Commitment to Inclusivity
The City of Casey has recently approved the 2025/26 Budget, which includes continued investment in the Sport4All initiative. This funding will allow more clubs throughout Casey to engage in the program and create their own Inclusion Action Plans. “Hampton Park is setting a commendable standard, and we are eager to work with more clubs across Casey to cultivate a sporting community that welcomes everyone,” expressed Cr Koomen.
River Gum Ward Councillor, Lynette Pereira, shared her personal connection, stating, “My children played tennis at Hampton Park Tennis Club when they were younger, and I am proud to see the club championing inclusion in such a meaningful way. This club embodies a strong community spirit, and their leadership in adopting the Sport4All program sets a powerful example for others to follow,” remarked Cr Pereira.
