Dundee Invests £164,000 to Enhance Tennis Courts

Significant enhancements have been completed at over 20 tennis courts across Dundee, with a total investment of £164,000. This initiative was a joint effort between Dundee City Council and the Lawn Tennis Association, aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of tennis facilities in the area. The upgrades included resurfacing courts, repainting surfaces and lines, enhancing fencing, and installing smart gates to modernize the facilities.

The parks that benefited from these improvements include Baxter Park, Dawson Park, Camperdown Park, Dudhope Park, Fairmuir Park, South Road Park, and Victoria Park. This project is part of a broader national effort to rejuvenate tennis courts in public parks, providing essential opportunities for both children and adults to engage in physical activities and promote a healthier lifestyle.

Cllr Heather Anderson, who serves as the Climate, Environment & Biodiversity Convener for Dundee City Council, expressed her enthusiasm for the project. She stated, “This investment in our city’s tennis infrastructure, alongside our partnership with Tennis Scotland, will allow more individuals to enjoy tennis in their local communities. The advantages of staying active are well-documented, and having access to high-quality tennis courts can significantly contribute to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”

Additionally, Cllr Steven Rome, the Convener for Fair Work, Economic Growth & Infrastructure, emphasized the positive implications of this investment. He remarked, “It is encouraging to see further investment in our city’s sporting facilities for community use. Residents can be confident that Dundee’s park tennis courts now meet the high standards set by the LTA. We are dedicated to enhancing and preserving the city’s outdoor assets, including tennis courts, as we strive to improve our communal outdoor spaces.”
