Sports Cryotherapy: Boosting Athlete Recovery at Rafa Nadal Academy

The Quirón Salud Sports Clinic, nestled within the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar, is consistently advancing its offerings to provide exceptional medical care to both the young athletes training at this high-performance center and the amateur sports enthusiasts who visit Manacor for its extensive sports programs.

In the realm of professional sports, the difference between winning and losing can be razor-thin, making every aspect of an athlete’s preparation vital. The introduction of sports cryotherapy at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar marks a significant leap forward, offering crucial support to athletes aiming to achieve their goals.

This technological enhancement has been made possible through a collaboration with Cryosense, which has crafted a cryotherapy machine specifically designed for sports professionals. The Cryosense cold room, now operational at the Quirón Salud Sports Clinic, is tailored for athletic use, providing essential assistance in injury recovery and boosting physical performance.

In addition to physical benefits, the use of this machine also provides mental and emotional advantages. The application of extreme cold in a controlled environment promotes relaxation and well-being, enhancing the positive effects of rest on an athlete’s motivation.

How do cryotherapy sessions work? The process is quite simple! Cryotherapy involves exposing the body to extremely low temperatures, achieved in booths through the evaporation of liquid nitrogen. During these sessions, athletes are subjected to temperatures ranging from -110°C to -196°C for a short period (2 to 3 minutes) within a controlled setting. This exposure results in a reduction of skin temperature by less than 5°C, while the core body temperature remains stable.

Domingo Rosselló, who leads the Fitness and Health departments at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar, is enthusiastic about this innovation. He believes the Cryosense booth will be instrumental in accelerating recovery for some players, particularly after intense physical exertion and demanding training sessions.
