Sharapova revealed to Business Insider that she’s been closely following the wellness industry for years. Therabody, with its innovative approach to recovery and wellness, caught her attention as a unique player in the space. She shared that her investment decisions are based on identifying brands that approach problems with new technology or standout design.
“For Bala Bangles, Mark and I both felt they had a unique design that brought a fresh perspective to fitness gear,” she explained. “For Therabody, their cutting-edge technology set them apart from anything else I’d seen in the industry.”
Though she didn’t disclose her investment amount, Sharapova’s involvement goes beyond funding. She’ll serve as an advisory board member and consultant, focusing on global expansion and product development for Therabody.
“As my career has evolved, I now have the freedom to pursue new investments and dedicate time to projects I believe in,” Sharapova said.
Throughout her 17-year tennis career, Sharapova held the title of the highest-paid female athlete for 11 years and earned an estimated $325 million from prize money and brand partnerships. With more time to focus on her investments, she’s poised to continue growing her fortune through strategic ventures.
Sharapova’s investment portfolio also includes Supergoop, a high-end sunscreen line, and her own candy brand, Sugarpova, which she launched with $500,000 in 2012.
When it comes to choosing investments, Sharapova looks for three key qualities: industry disruption, a long-term vision, and strong leadership. “In both tennis and business, I’ve learned the importance of surrounding yourself with thoughtful experts and a great team,” she noted.
For budding investors, Sharapova has one critical piece of advice: “Do your homework. Take the time to do due diligence and don’t rush into the wrong decision.”
Sharapova’s post-tennis journey is proving as calculated and ambitious as her sports career, with a growing portfolio of wellness investments that reflect her commitment to health and innovation.
