AI Innovations Transform Australian Open and Roland Garros Experience

In 2024, the Australian Open embraced cutting-edge technology to expand its audience reach and enhance the overall experience for both fans and players. By integrating AI-driven tools, the tournament aimed to provide deeper insights into player performance and streamline content creation. These innovations were later adopted by France’s Roland Garros, further showcasing their impact on the world of tennis.

The prestigious tennis event, held at the beginning of the year, collaborated with Infosys to leverage AI-based solutions that enriched the fan experience through digital advancements. Craig Tiley, CEO of Tennis Australia and Director of the Australian Open, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “For the past six years, Infosys has been instrumental in elevating the fan experience through digital technologies. The advancements in AI at the Australian Open 2024 are particularly exciting, offering new levels of interactivity for fans and valuable insights for players, while also enhancing the speed and scale of our content delivery.”

Raghavan Subramanian, Associate Vice President and Head of the Infosys Tennis Platform, highlighted the use of AI tools such as the AI Bracket Challenge, Match Center, and Infosys AI Videos. These technologies were subsequently integrated into the French Open, also known as Roland Garros, which attracts approximately 633,222 spectators. Subramanian noted, “These innovations were crafted to make the Roland Garros experience more engaging and informative for a broader audience.”

At Roland Garros 2024, the focus was on utilizing AI to enhance the digital experience for fans, players, coaches, and media. The platforms enabled fans to create artistic renditions of iconic Roland Garros posters using generative AI, sparking increased interest and interaction with the tournament’s rich history. Subramanian explained, “This initiative empowered users to explore the capabilities of generative AI and express their artistic talents.”

Additionally, fans were provided with tools for side-by-side video comparisons and real-time performance analytics. These features allowed users to delve into the intricacies of gameplay, offering insights into serves and groundstrokes. Subramanian emphasized, “This tool aids users in dissecting and comprehending the nuances of gameplay, enhancing their understanding of tennis strategies.”
