In Dundee, a significant investment of £164,000 has been successfully completed to enhance over 20 tennis courts. This initiative, a collaboration between Dundee City Council and the Lawn Tennis Association, focused on various improvements, including resurfacing, repainting lines, upgrading fencing, and installing smart gates to modernize the facilities.
The parks that received these upgrades include Baxter Park, Dawson Park, Camperdown Park, Dudhope Park, Fairmuir Park, South Road Park, and Victoria Park. This project is part of a broader national effort aimed at revitalizing tennis courts in public parks, thereby promoting increased physical activity and community engagement.
Cllr Heather Anderson, who serves as the Climate, Environment & Biodiversity Convener for Dundee City Council, expressed her excitement about the enhancements. She stated, “This investment in our tennis infrastructure, in partnership with Tennis Scotland, will enable more individuals to enjoy tennis at their local courts. The advantages of staying active are well-known, and having access to quality tennis facilities can greatly contribute to a healthier lifestyle.”
Additionally, Cllr Steven Rome, the Convener for Fair Work, Economic Growth & Infrastructure, emphasized the positive implications of this funding. He remarked, “It is heartening to see further investment in our city’s sports facilities for community use. Residents can trust that Dundee’s park tennis courts meet the high standards established by the LTA. We are dedicated to investing in and maintaining the city’s outdoor amenities, including tennis courts, as we strive to improve our communal outdoor spaces.”
